At Harris Beverages, we believe that as a local business we have a responsibility to support the local community that supports us. For us that means many different forms of participation in a wide range of local charities and events. From money to manpower, we provide support and expertise to a wide range of causes. Here are some of the ways we like to stay involved:
Bull City Food & Beer Experience
For three years, Harris Beverages has been the title sponsor of the Bull City Food & Beer Experience – the premier beer and food pairing event in North Carolina. In addition to sponsorship, we work meticulously to curate pairings of our portfolio of beers with some of the best local restaurants. With over 700 foodies and beer enthusiasts attending each year, the Food & Beer Experience has raised upwards of $60K for the Ellerbe Creek Association, which works to clean and protect one of Durham’s local watersheds.
Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina
At Harris, we give annual support to the local Durham branch of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. We give support through money donations, as well as once a year outings, when the Harris team visits the local branch to spend a day sorting food donations.
NC Rare & Vintage Tasting
One of our all-time favorite events is the North Carolina Rare & Vintage Tasting every January. Since the event’s move to Durham three years ago, Harris has been a principal partner. From offering our rarest beers for sampling to printing the programs, we’ve supported the event’s cause, Pints for Prostates, which raises awareness to the need for men to get screenings early to detect and treat prostate cancer. They even offer screenings on site!
Beer Expertise
With three Certified Cicerones® on staff, we routinely offer free training to our retail community. This includes off-flavor panels, talking through beer styles and trends, and even the finer points of beer and food pairings. We’ve even been able to support the locally-based NC Museum of Life and Science through beer classes offered as part of their After Hours series of fundraisers!
